Paperweight was honoured to welcome Baroness Sherlock OBE, Minister of State in the House of Lords for the Department for Work and Pensions, together with Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis.
The visit gave us a valuable opportunity to bring our frontline work to life: to explain the complexity behind each client case, the barriers people face when navigating government systems, and the patience and persistence often required to secure the right outcome. We were especially grateful that the Chief Rabbi joined the visit, lending his voice and support to the importance of ensuring that vulnerable members of our community are heard, understood and never left to struggle alone. We deeply appreciated the genuine interest both Baroness Sherlock and the Chief Rabbi showed in our work and in the experiences of those who turn to Paperweight for support.
Earlier this year, Paperweight took the realities we witness every day directly to Government. In our meeting with Stephen Timms MP, Minister of State for Social Security and Disability, we spoke frankly about the distressing barriers faced by people trying to navigate the PIP application and assessment process while already living with serious illness or disability. We were subsequently invited to contribute to the Timms Review, giving Paperweight an important opportunity to ensure that the voices of our clients, and the realities of what they endure, are heard at the heart of this national discussion.
