As well as a number of organisational-support tasks for volunteers, our caseworkers are all volunteers too.

Our volunteers come from a wide range of professional, business and personal backgrounds.

What unites our volunteers is their dedication to helping others with dignity, discretion and respect. They give not only their time, but their insight, empathy and determination, ensuring that each client is supported as an individual.

What makes a Successful Caseworker?

If you have experience of advocacy and bureaucracy, if you have patience and focus, then being a caseworker may be for you. If you have specific experience in any of the subjects listed below, that would be additionally beneficial.

Your experience and accumulated skills will be a large part of what we are looking for. There may be areas of your clients’ problems with which you may have only a passing knowledge, and therefore we offer training in many different subjects to help broaden your knowledge. Regular reporting and interaction within the organisation are part of the very successful “Paperweight approach.”

We are looking to recruit volunteer Caseworkers to provide practical assistance to members of the community in a time of crisis.

For this role you will be someone who has a genuine desire to help people and who can offer support with warmth, patience and understanding.

We are looking to recruit volunteer Caseworkers who may have knowledge in the welfare system to guide and support clients with benefits related queries including entitlement, claims, mandatory reconsiderations and appeals.

For this role you will need an in-depth up to date knowledge and experience of Welfare Benefits.

We are looking to recruit volunteer employment caseworkers to guide and support clients with all aspects of employment enquiries, including unfair dismissal, redundancy, breach of contract and discrimination.

For this role you will need in-depth up to date knowledge and experience of Employment Law.

We are looking to recruit additional volunteer private family law caseworkers to guide our clients with all aspects of divorce, children contact and financial settlements. We also assist clients in applying for non-molestation orders. This may also include interaction with the Beth Din to facilitate the giving and receiving the Get.

For this role you will need an in-depth up to date knowledge and experience of Family Law.

We are looking to recruit volunteer housing caseworkers to guide and support clients with all aspects of housing enquiries.

For this role you will need in-depth up to date knowledge and experience of housing law including homelessness and including Landlord & Tenant in the social, housing association and private sectors.

Purpose of the role:
To provide practical assistance to members of the community in a time of crisis.

Role Description:

  • Meeting clients, both face-to-face, Team or Zoom meetings or by telephone if appropriate.
  • Listening to the client and hearing what is said and importantly, what is not being said.
  • Finding, interpreting and communicating the relevant information and exploring all options and implications in order that the client can come to a decision
  • Acting, where necessary, on behalf of the client, with their permission, when it comes to advocating, negotiating, drafting or writing letters or making appropriate referrals
  • Completing clear and accurate case records.

Person Specification The Qualities We Value:
We are looking for someone who has a genuine desire to help people and who can offer support with warmth, patience and understanding.

The ideal caseworker will:

  • Communicate with empathy and respect, making clients feel heard, valued and supported. They will be open, approachable and non-judgmental, with the ability to build trust while remaining clear about the boundaries and limits of the role.
  • Listen carefully, recognise the issues being presented, and support the client to take appropriate next steps. This may include researching relevant information, applying it to the client’s circumstances, and explaining complex matters in clear, simple and accessible language.
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills, accurate record keeping, and a good level of IT literacy. An understanding of confidentiality is essential.
  • Have the option of learning and developing new skills through relevant training, ongoing support and opportunities for personal development.
  • Have a positive attitude and the ability to work well as part of a team, bringing care, professionalism and sensitivity to every client interaction.
