Disability Living Allowance

Disability and health related benefit for children up to the age of 16 to pay for addition-al costs for care and support.

Weekly DLA payments can range from £30.30 to £194.60, and it is awarded for the additional care and support needs a child has due to a disability or health condition.

New DLA applications can only be made for children under the age of 16. Once a child reached 16, they will need to make a new application to Personal Independence Payment to continue receiving support.

DLA is a non-means tested benefit, so levels of savings or income have no effect on a child’s eligibility for the benefit.

There are two components to DLA, a Care Component and a Mobility Component. The Care Component has Lower, Middle, and Higher rates of payment, whereas the Mobility Com-ponent has only the Lower or Higher rates.
